Traineeships

Traineeships

Traineeships are an opportunity for young people to gain real work experience and job skills.

At its core are a high-quality work experience placement, work preparation training and English and Maths if needed. Traineeships give young people aged 16 to 24 the skills and experience that employers are looking for, helping you to boost your careers prospects with an apprenticeship or other employment in the future.

The benefits:
  • The opportunity to build your CV and get valuable work experience with local and national employers, where you are able to learn about the business and the industry it operates in.
  • Work preparation training will put you in a better position to compete for an apprenticeship or other employment.
  • Maths and English support, if needed, to help you with the literacy and numeracy skills helping you boost your career prospects, as well as improving your long-term chances and earning potential over your lifetime.
  • Employers are at the centre of the work experience, which ensures you are ‘work ready’, and have the confidence to take the first step to securing employment and kick starting your career.
  • At the end of your work experience you’ll get an interview with your work experience employer and an offer of employment/apprenticeship if a position is available, or a written reference with feedback and assistance to help you find an apprenticeship or other employment.

Our construction traineeship lasts 11 weeks and includes the following:

  • Health, Safety and Environment training and online testing to obtain a Provisional CSCS card.
  • Functional Skills Maths and English for those without GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent qualification).
  • Work preparation training including practical construction skills, CV writing, interview preparation and job searching.
  • Work experience 4/5 days per week – Real onsite work experience with a designated employer and mentor.

What is a CSCS Card?

CSCS Cards are the single most important qualification in the construction industry. Obtaining a CSCS Card proves that you have the required skills to work in a construction working environment and that youhave passed the Health and Safety knowledge needed to work safely.

CSCS Card work on a colour coded system related to which level of experience, training, courses and qualifications passed. CSCS Cards are used to gain access to construction sites to prove you have the required skills and training. Over 85% of UK construction sites require workers to have a CSCS Card.

There are around 13 different types of cards and it all depends on the occupation you will be applying for and the qualifications you have in the construction industry.
